XV Florence Biennale October 2025
Being held in Florence, Italy from October 18 to 26, 2025, the theme is: “The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness – Concepts of Dualism and Unity in Contemporary Art and Design.” Christine has been invited to showcase her unique style of art jewelry at this year's event. She is currently developing some new pieces worthy of such an honour.
Cluster Contemporary Art Jewellery London, UK Spring & Winter Editions
The Cluster Art Jewellery Fair is an intimate exhibit of 80 international contemporary art jewellers showcasing their visions of wearable adornment outside the boundaries of traditional jewelry making. Christine was honoured to have been personally invited to participate in the Fair, based on her noteworthy collections for Milan Jewelry Week. The Spring edition focused on wearable contemporary art jewelry, while the December theme of "Metamorphosis" was driven by the use of unusual materials. For the December edition, Christine learned how to fabricate bioplastic and harvested seaweed from French Beach on Vancouver Island. She also incorporated beach pebbles and used charcoal wood from beach fires. These stunning pieces showcase the beauty and resilence of our landscape.

Romanian Jewelry Week
September 22 - 27, 2020
Between 19-24th of March 2020, the first edition of ROMANIAN JEWELRY WEEK will take place in Bucharest, on the anniversary of 10 years since the launching of Assamblage and the start of a new jewelry community in Romania. An effervescent week with fairs, exhibitions, workshops, conferences and guided tours, ROJW will bring Bucharest alongside other big cities in the world that have dedicated an event to the field of contemporary jewelry, like Milan, Athens, Munich, Barcelona and New York. Christine Rio, of Slate Jewelry located in Vancouver, Canada, is thrilled to be one of the selected international jewelry designers participating in this new, exciting event. She will be showing her MYTHOS collection to a new community of art & contemporary jewelry lovers. She has created one more piece to add to the collection, "Poetry Slam", a over-the-top bracelet which brings the ancient greek world into the modern age with it's graffiti inspired etching.

"Gorgon" hand cuff sterling silver
The myth of Medusa still rings true today. A beautiful woman blamed for the misdeeds of a man, punished for life and condemned to death. The band of the cuff swirls around the wrist in a snake-like fashion, the rage of her face in the centre of swirling tendrils. Cuffs are themselves symbolic of feminine power. Here, Medusa regains her strength, empowering the wearer to be beholden to no one, to be fierce and unapologetic.

Inspired by the image of a Grecian warrior on a fragment of pottery, this piece pays its respects to ancient craftsmen, greek mythology and even Keat's 'Ode on a Grecian Urn': "'beauty is truth, truth beauty,' – that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know." The inspiration to create something beautiful is enough in its own right; whether it be in words, in art, in music. It is a welcome respite in these times.
"Agamemnon" Choker and pendantbrass
The gold funeral mask, named for the Mycenaean king, Agamemnon, is full of mystery. Predating the Trojan war by about 300 years, the questions about why, and for whom, was it created still linger. What masks do we all wear everyday to allow us to go forth in the world? With a hammer and simple tools, making the face take shape in the metal is almost meditative, each strike bringing life to this ancient face.
"Armour" earrings sterling silver, rose gold
Based on the ancient Corinthian helmet, these earrings hearken to the writings of Herodotus. Not all who wore armour were men. In his Histories, Herodotus writes of the women of Machlyes and Auseans, who engagegd in an annual ritualized battle. Dressed in full armour, the women fought each other with sticks and stones to pay respect to Athena. Those that died in battle were thought to be punished by the goddess for lying about their virginity, something that is still viewed as a crime by some.
